4 Pillars of an Extraordinary Life

The powers of the body, mind, wealth and relationships

“The key to being happy is knowing you have the power to choose what to accept and what to let go.” ~Dodinsky

“How can I be happier?” It’s a simple question but the answer eludes so many different kinds of people.

Some people think that if only they were rich, beautiful or successful they’d be happy. But there are countless examples of rich, beautiful and/or successful people who are still unhappy. I won’t name them here but pick up any magazine, newspaper and you can read all about them. Other people think that if they could only accomplish their biggest challenge or significant goal (get that promotion, run a marathon, lose 50 pounds) they’d finally be happy. But the work we do to accomplish the goal can actually be more satisfying than finally achieving the goal. Once the goal is accomplished, most people cannot say that they finally became happy and that their happiness lasted forever.

Happiness & Success is always seen as a different side of the same coin. Generally it is seen, whether in worldly life or in spiritual life, powers are the basis of success & happiness. The more powers you have, the more successful you are and the more successful you are, the happier you feel in your life. The main powers are of the body, mind, wealth and relationships. All four are essential to lead a happy life. If even one power out of these four is missing, there is not constant and total success in life. And when we lack something in life, we lack complete & constant happiness.

Power of a Healthy & Fit Body

  1. Power of a Healthy & Fit Body – Any goal, achievement, success or happiness is only possible when we experience health and fitness. Therefore, it is rightly said that Health is wealth. If our physical body is not fit, we will not be able to experience or enjoy the wonders of this life. Therefore, this is one of the most essential powers to lead a happy & successful life. And in order to experience that physical strength, I must develop inner strength of the soul as well.

What better illustration than that of Arunima Sinha, the Indian mountaineer who became the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest can be sited when we speak of “inner strength of the soul” has an enormous unfathomable power to create “the perfect healthy  body”. In 2013, Sinha, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by a prestigious UK university for her inspirational achievements.

Almost all ailments today are due to an overload of information. Perhaps Kruti, a senior colleague in the organization I work with, had never thought of diabetes until she began spending too much time on the internet researching and reading, thereby unknowingly feeding all that information into her system and planting those unwanted unhealthy thoughts to grow and allowing negative vibrations to interfere with healing.

What thoughts do you choose to create for your body? Do you wish to focus on the wonders people like Arunima have created in the same situation as yours? How about creating healthy thoughts and sharing those vibrations with someone you know of who is going through physical distress? Doesn’t the idea of you being an angel in the life of someone who is
physically in discomfort feel spiritually empowering?

The good health of both soul and matter is essential. When the soul is healthy, then, through your inner stability, any physical pain or illness of your body become like a thorn from a crucifix and you experience yourself to be healthy. There are then no signs of illness or suffering on the face. They will not even speak about illness because speaking about the illness would cause the illness to increase. Such a person will never experience the suffering of the illness, nor will he spread a wave of sorrow by speaking of his suffering. Instead, with the inner strength and power of transformation, he will transform any suffering into contentment; he will remain content and bring about a wave of contentment in others.

Power of Elevated Mind

  • Power of Mind – The second most important power is the power of the mind, that is, the power of elevated thoughts. Every thought has so much power that we can do whatever we want, whenever we want and also make it happen, because our thoughts are always pure, elevated and benevolent. So, where there are elevated thoughts of benevolence, they will definitely be successful and, the ones who have achieve the self-mastery over their thoughts, mind, feelings and emotions, their mind can never deceive its master; it cannot make them experience sorrow. The mind remains concentrated, that is, it remains stable in one place; it does not wander. We are then able to stabilize our mind wherever we want, whenever we want. The mind can then never be unhappy, because it becomes our server, our servant. So, this is the power of the mind, using it to lead a successful and happy life.

“The powers of the mind are like the rays of the sun when they are concentrated they illumine.”
-Swami Vivekananda

Power of Wisdom

  • Power of Wealth – In the same way, the third is the power of wealth, that is, the power of the wealth of knowledge. The wealth of knowledge automatically enables one to attain physical wealth. Where there is the wealth of knowledge, nature automatically becomes a servant. Physical wealth is for physical facilities. With the wealth of knowledge, you automatically attain all physical facilities. This is why the wealth of knowledge is the king of all wealth. Where the king is, all the physical materials are automatically attained; you don’t need to make effort. If you have to make effort to attain any physical things, it means there is a lack of knowledge. In fact, the wealth of knowledge makes you into a multimillionaire.

However, it is important to be aware about the difference between “knowledge” and “wisdom” because the latter is when information or knowledge acquired is put into practical day-to-day life, else one could be complacent feeling that he has amassed tons of
knowledge even after decades of being in ‘knowledge’.

Doing everything with the right understanding, proper knowledge and refine intellect automatically brings success in everything you do. They don’t even need to have a thought; all necessities automatically continue to be supplied. So, you also easily attain the power of wealth.

Power of Relationships

  • Power of Relationships – In the same way, there is the power of relationships. There is the pure desire for the attainment of the power of relationships because, through relationships, there is the attainment of love and co-operation.

“Love cures people—both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.”
—Karl Menninger

A relationship that is limitless, without any demands or conditions. A love that does not see others weaknesses and instead appreciates their qualities. A loving relationship that is blissful, strong and with no hidden fears and insecurities. A love that is ready to adjust and mould according to other person and is willing to sacrifice. A pure heart that brings goodness and big – bigheartedness in every relationship they experience.

It’s a good idea to assess reassess, evaluate and reevaluate our relations from time to time. Asking ourselves the question, “what energy am I bringing to the relation?” The story of the wife who drifted apart from her family after two decades of togetherness and was reunited because of the enormous positive vibrations and love sent to her by her husband and children that created a magnetic field compelling her to reconnect. The family, instead of giving up on her after the months of depression she went through, worked toward spiritual recovery- as family members of an ailing patient would. We wouldn’t give up on a loved one merely due to
a physical illness, would we? Certainly, we can use God’s connection, power and energy to heal and reunite emotionally aching people around us as well. Do you want to experience this energizing empowering thought for yourself?

When we start experiencing all the 4 powers in our life, our practical form of success will be visible to everyone around us. Any task that has gone wrong will easily be put right with these above powers. Learning how to find solutions to our problems can help us feel more in control, which will, in turn, help reduce our stress. Research shows that if we try to be grateful, cope with difficult situations, nurture our most important relationships, do meaningful work and take care of ourselves, we will be happier for it. If we make a conscious effort to try any or all of these things, they will have a big impact on our level of happiness.
